- "Anyone can doubt easily. Tohru try to believe. Be a person who believes. That will certainly become an encouragement to someone."
- "A person is not born with kindness. Their innate traits are greed, gluttony, the wish to possess. In other words, they are only the basic surviving instincts. Kindness is the same as growing up, its like the mind that grows inside oneself. It’s a conscience."
- "A desire is born at birth so its easy to understand,, but kindness is something that everyone has to make with their own hands. So its easily misunderstood or thought of as hypocrisy."
- "Loss… and hardship… It’s useless to just think about them."
- "But there is something I believe. I want to live my life, carrying my memories with me. Even if those memories are painful, even if those memories do nothing but hurt me, even if those memories I wish I could forget, as long as I keep carrying them with me, and don’t run away from them, someday , someday I believe I will get to the point where I’m not oppressed by those memories."
- "No matter the memory, I want to be sure to hold it to my heart and go on believing ."
- "You would not think that being weak is a good thing, but I don’t think being strong is good either."
- " They say the society is the survival of the fittest, but we are not animals we are people."
- "More than anything else, what’s important is for you, is to come to like yourself, finding the good points about yourself, and growing to like yourself. After all, there’s no way for a person who dislikes themselves to be liked by others, is there?"
- "How do you look for these ‘good points,’ I wonder when you only know what points you don’t like and you dislike yourself because you don’t know any others?"
- "I think the way is to have someone tell you that they like you so that you can begin to like yourself, you know? When someone first accepts you that’s when you first begin to forgive yourself a little, and begin to think you like yourself, I believe."
- " Its not particularly that I became stronger all of a sudden and nothing else has changed. However, I’m going to face it. What’s important is the ambition that results from our weaknesses."
- "Holding someone dear means that there will be difficult times. However it is something that makes you happy."
- I think you WANT them to care. You want them to look at you, don't you? All those people. You want them to need you. You want them.....to listen to you. To understand somehow. You want them to accept you. I think.... you want them to love you.You know something? I'm like that, too."
- Shigure: Perhaps I can offer some advice? ...You know, Tohru-kun, when you get anxiety about the future it's better not to think about it. And let's not wipe our faces with dishtowels... For example let's say, Tohru-kun, that you are surrounded with a mountain of laundry piled so high around your feet that you can't move. Are you with me? Now, let's assume you don't have a washing machine, so you have to wash everything individually by hand. You would be at a loss for what to do, right? You'd worry about if you could ever wash everything, if you could get it all clean, if you'd ever have time for anything but laundry ever again! The more you'd think about it, the more anxious you'd get. But the time keeps passing, and the laundry doesn't wash itself. So what do you do, Tohru-kun? It might be a good idea to start washing the laundry right at your feet. Of course it's important to think about what lies ahead, too, but if you only look at what's down the road you'll get tangled in the laundry at your feet and you'll fall, won't you? You see, it's also important to think about what you can do now, what you can do today. And if you keep washing things one at a time, you'll be done before you know it. Because fortune is looking out for you. Sometimes the anxiety will start to well up, but when it does, take a little break. Read a book, watch TV, or eat soumen with everyone. Oh my, I'm shocked! Wow! What a wonderful analogy! I really must treat myself to some soumen as a reward...
